UNICEF partners with Gov’t, civil society for protection of migrant children

Congratulations to our partner BLOSSOM INC.,as UNICEF partners with Gov’t, civil society for protection of migrant children in Region 2 & 7. RIVAH and Blossom have a joint venture since 2015 and have been conducting interviews, training and social work on site at the center including forensic and case studies. Four years later the Children Advocacy Center (CAC) which is currently housed in the Shaffeek Khan Outreach Center in Essequibo has seen increasing numbers of successful prosecutions of child abuse cases. The approach involves collaboration among all agencies involved in the investigation, treatment, management and prosecution of child abuse cases resulting in more efficient evidence gathering and stronger cases against perpetrators.

RIVAH Founder and CEO Rafieya Zara Khan says that she is proud of the work and support that Blossom continues to do in Region 2 and around Guyana. #rivah #blossom #guyana #children #ngo #essequibo #shaffeekkhanourtreachcenter #support #unicef #rafieyahusain

RIVAH  SCHOLARSHIP

My fellow Guyanese, as I continue my campaign bringing awareness to Domestic Abuse and Suicide, I have some exciting news to share with you.

Rafieya’s International Vision and Hope (RIVAH) is collaborating with the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) and offering THREE SCHOLARSHIP for individuals interested in getting certified as a crisis worker in Guyana.

RIVAH and BLOSSOMS INC. partner to tackle Gender-Based Violence amongst teens.

Blossom Incorporated and RIVAH has signed a partnership agreement to deliver the Removing Violence in Schools Initiative. This initiative is a proactive approach to gender based violence by grooming teenagers to relate to peers and others in a non-violent way. Managing Director of Blossom Inc. Mrs. Dalgety-Dean stated, “Equipping our teenagers with cognitive processing and coping skills will enable them to control their emotions when they encounter challenges and use non-violent approaches in their problem solving techniques.”

The partnership will also see RIVAH, who recently handed over the keys to the Shaffeek Khan Outreached Center to Blossom Inc. to house its work in Region Two, supporting Blossom Inc. in its implementation of a Children Advocacy Center in Region 2 to address child abuse issues. RIVAH Founder and CEO Rafieya Husain says that she is very excited to begin work in Region 2 and with this partnership will bring about more awareness and education in the schools.

A Children Advocacy Center (CAC) is an innovative proven approach to increasing the number of successful prosecutions of child abuse cases. The approach involves collaboration among all agencies involved in the investigation, treatment, management and prosecution of child abuse cases resulting in more efficient evidence gathering and stronger cases against perpetrators.

Minister of Social Services and Protection Ms. Ann Greene made a courtesy visit to the Shaffeek Khan Outreach Center

The Minister of Social Services and Protection Ms. Ann Greene made a courtesy visit to the Shaffeek Khan Outreach center last month.

Blossom Incorporated, is the NGO dealing with child sexual abuse cases in Region Two through a Child Advocacy Centre housed at the Center. RIVAH and Blossom have a joint venture since 2015 and have been conducting interviews, training and Social work on site at the center including forensic and case studies..

The center, like the five others which were established across Guyana, will seek to offer children and non- offending families, child abuse services and a chance of hope, especially after encountering traumatic experiences

Region two is one of the most affected in the country and the team has been committed to the advocacy and working towards the prevention of child sexual abuse and promoting child wellbeing.

Bibi Barakat who is a Child Counsellor and social worker is available at the Outreach Center daily and is actively involved in the program. See Ms. Barakat and Ms. Ann Greene in picture on her visit.

Thank you Juliet Coonjah - Executive Member of RIVAH as she spoke on behalf of Rivah at the Exhibition held at the Anna Regina Police Station last Friday as we collaborated with BLOSSOM INC, in partnership with the EU and UNICEF, as the launch of an exhibition titled "The Travelling Exhibition" by displaying paintings created by child abuse survivors at Police Stations in specified regions across the country

The Travelling Exhibition has an extended stay in Essequibo and has been moved to Charity Police Station. Since Child Sexual Abuse is very much present in that area, it seemed fitting that while the exhibition is already in Region Two, it be moved to this station as well. The exhibition will be on display at Charity Police Station until June 17, 2016.
